Autumn beauty seems to stop us in our yearly trek around the sun and cause us to really look. As if time is grabbing our attention, like an inpatient child reaching for her mom's face begging, "look at me!"

The year is almost over and instead of racing to the finish, the natural rhythm of fall seems to call for a slowing down. A winding down. Reflection and quiet.

I've never noticed this before.

This year, I'm paying attention.
